Not science fiction-y enough for my taste.

Does make you think, and I did spend a good portion of this book feeling anxious or uncomfortable. Worth the read.

This was an interesting read about technology and its neverending progress to connect people all over the world. But, to what degree should we be open in a virtual world? Should we share every second of our life, every thing we do, to people we have never even met? These are the questions that came to my mind after reading this book. Truly an eye opening book for me.

Whew, this is all just a bit too close for comfort. The whole time I wanted to yell at Mae because she was just so wrapped up in the whole cult of the Circle, but that’s the thing - it works a lot like a cult. She spent all her waking hours at this place, drinking in their philosophy, and because she was new at her job and it’s such an impressive place to work and she was pretty young - well, it’s not hard to see how she’d get so wrapped up into it. It seems terrifying from the reader’s perspective, but at the same time when you look at how technology has shaped society so far, it’s not a very big leap to get where they are. We should consider this a warning.

i found this book after seeing emma watson appearing in the movie and that it was based on a book. I love these kind of books so i got the book! Honestly the book gave me anxiety. I love technology, but to have it to that extreme is unimaginable. I would probably hide too.

Describing THE CIRCLE as "Dave Eggers' Crichton-book" wouldn't do his work justice. Sure, just like Crichton, Eggers takes a topical subject (social media and its disregard for privacy in this case) and takes it several steps further, weighing the utopian benefits of modern technology against the sacrifice of our freedom, bit by bit. But while Crichton usually loses his social commentary once the adventure kicks in, Eggers keeps throwing interesting new dilemma's at his readers, deftly shifting from an exciting new, care-free world to something distinctly dystopian. It's a book that is at once both a highly accessible page-turner and something that (hopefully) triggers much debate over the value and detractors of social media, privacy and the nature of democracy. And do we really want a true democracy? THE CIRCLE forces you to rethink your position on all this, possibly even to change your views. Highly recommended.
