Read this after watching Mickey 17 and it's definitely an interesting contrast. While this is a straightforward sci fi book, I enjoyed the movie's anti capitalistic take on it a lot more as well as it's take on the creepers. Also, Nasha's character was so small here. However, there's a lot of additional tidbits and world building that I enjoyed quite a bit but I don't think I'd have liked it this much if I didn't have the movie as a reference and read it as a stand alone

Title: Mickey7
Author: Edward Ashton
Genre: Science-Fiction
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review
Brief Summary
Mickey is an 'Expendable' working on a new human colony on a barely hospitable planet far away. As an Expendable his consciousness is copied to allow for him to be cloned after death. At the beginning of the book we see Mickey 7 fall into a cave where his death is anticipated, against his better judgement he manages to survive and make it back to the base, but not before Mickey 8 is cloned. Duplicates are forbidden on the pain of possible and probable (The colony leader despises Mickey) execution, so Mickey is now aiming to keep everything secret, but this becomes harder as the people around him start to notice discrepancies and with the colonies limited rationing split between two.
Thoughts:
Mickey is a hilarious character within his circumstances, it is very entertaining to read his mere existence. This book blends sci-fi and comedy together brilliantly and I could not stop reading!
The plot is intriguing and you can really feel the desperation and will to survive from the characters. There are classic sci-fi themes present throught, such as if you are a perfect clone are you still You?, is cloning and the concept of expendable people ethically right, and finally one of my favourites "How broad is your definition of you?"
Would I Recommend?
Absolutely, I consider this to be a staple and sci-fi classic. I think if you enjoy Andy Weir or Terry Pratchett's books you will appreciate the humour in Mickey7.

Loved so much of this book but the sexual stuff was unnecessary and weird. No longer interested
