I don't read a lot of science fiction but the premise of this book intrigued me, as did the upcoming film adaptation by Bong Joon-ho. I really enjoyed the casual fun with which the author approached a story that could just as easily have been extremely dark. I imagine Ashton had an immense amount of fun coming up with the worst sci-fi deaths imaginable, and I can't wait for 10 more of those deaths in the movie.
The ending did feel a bit anticlimactic but, given the tone of the novel, that didn't completely ruin anything for me. If anything it left me eager to read the sequel, which I plan to do soon.
