I don’t think the book is at fault for my low review. I think it’s because just before reading this I read the amazing works of Stephen Fry and Madeline Miller and fell in love with their writing style on Greek mythology that this just felt bland.

It also didn’t help that I knew most of the stories in this book already and the constant droning of who fought who in the Iliad just felt like unnecessary description - although I guess historically (? Or mythologically) it is rather necessary. I guess for me it was information I didn’t care for unless it involved major players like Hector, Achilles, Ajax etc.

In terms of the Odyssey, I find him to be a very smart man but I was disappointed to find everything to be told from his POV and no information about his time with Calypso and Circe involving their POV too. Although, I guess I have Madeline Miller for that

A wonderful read and a worthy giant in greek mythology. It was a hard read, but it was still very well worth it getting to the end. So many complex interwoven themes and happenings, as well as finally learning what this is all about.
