I love the way Sally Rooney makes up the most "human-like" characters, depicting their whole personality by showing all their flaws and insecurities as well as every little stupid thought that crosses their mind. Even though Conversation with Friends isn't the most common story, you'll still be drawn in to the characters lives and experiences, especially if you relate to Frances at times. If you like depressing coming-of-age novels, you'll enjoy this one.

There was something compelling about this book that I’m not quite sure I can fully articulate.
In many ways I feel I shouldn’t like the story, or the characters, but I found myself drawn in to their world.
There is an air of ambiguity with Frances, which is remarkable in that she describes Bobbi as hard to decipher, and yet she feels harder to pin down. Bobbi felt more openly expressive.
Like with Normal people, I feel quite emotionally affected in that there is a level of discomfort I’m left sitting with. I suppose that’s a sign of powerful writing and storytelling.
