An incredibly moving account of AIDs and a deeply heartfelt memorial to his relationship with Roger. This is one of those books that felt like bearing witness, not just to one couple's experience of this pandemic and their deep love for each other, but to the entire moment of time and to how those who fought unceasingly to do their bit, whether big or small. So many of the gut punch lines in this are throwaway comments by people helping them, a real testament to people who tirelessly helped in any way they could and the tangible impact it had on individual's lives.

Heartbreaking, thought provoking, all the feels. One of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read.

For some reasons, each one of them having a name and a loved face, I am in retrospective year and reading books about AIDS I could not have read 20 or even 15 years ago, they would have been too painful.
Not that is easy now reading them, but I am getting old, and my long gone friends visit me more often in my dreams. I wish the new generations will not make our mistakes, and I wish that intolerance and its sister indifference will never again let millions of young people die aimlessly, just because of their sexual orientation.

On an immediate emotional level, this is a very moving tribute—maybe the most loving thing I’ve ever read. I picked this up for my thesis and ended up bawling through the last fifty pages or so. On a more technical level, the writing of this is both conversational and layered in a way I really enjoyed. This is truly what a “slow paced” book should be—methodical and cautious with time, clinging to it rather than wasting it. One of the best books I’ve ever read.

It somehow feels bad rating a book with 2 stars, which is memoir of a person who‘s lost their partner in a fight against AIDS.
But I just couldn‘t finish it - in my opinion this book contains way too many unnecessary details about characters that add no value to the story at all.

If the same story was written in half the length, I probably would‘ve finished it as the theme itself speaks to me. But if you, like me, ask yourself after the first chapter if something is actually going to happen soon or whether you‘ll be able to connect emotionally with the author - do yourself a favour and just pick another book

This book’s in-depth explanation of a love story upended by AIDS has changed my perspective on almost everything about 1980-today except the significance of love.
