This is about Bree Mathews, the 16 year old high school student (in a college program), and how she embodies "Black Girl Magic," literally!

This story is "Black Girl Magic," meets Arthurian legend. This was about 500 pages, I feel like the first half was a bit slow, and then the second half picked up and had all the action.

The story was overall amazing!

I'm giving this 5 out of 5 stars.

This was one of the best books that I have read in a long time.
I will say that the last 100 pages was a wild ride and Bree being the Scion of Arthur was a lovely way to start black history month. It was beautifully described though that the horrors of slavery and the remnants of that being felt through generation.
Overall I loved this book and am so excited to start in the second one.

I love Bree so much. I loved to experience the story through her eyes. The love story is so cute, the magic system simply great, the characters are strong and the themes of trauma and racism as well as the critique of society are so well done. Can't wait to read the next one.

Also: Can her, Nick and Sel be a throuple please? Loved both love interests

This book honestly is so robust and well put together. The authors craftsmanship really shines through. You can see the amount of effort and time and research spent into creating this world. The world is so phenomenal to me. I was definitely confused at times with it all but I think that like at the speed that we were getting information reflected the speed at which our main character was also getting the information. The characters are so interesting and I really came to care about all of them. This book, honestly is so devastating and really pulled at my heartstrings, I was really there I believed what was happening and I feel so changed for reading it. I still can’t gauge the pacing but my heart bleeds for these characters.

6 hours - I cannot put into words how I feel about this book. It feels so much larger than just a book. All of the characters were just so so likeable, and their interactions made me physically react several times, which is something that rarely occurs for me. All the characters were so cleverly developed, and the plot was so interesting and engaging, and the ending was just perfect. It discussed so many important issues, and not only discussed them but so expertly wove them into the story itself. I'm going to be thinking about this book for a while.

This book was incredible, start to finish. Somehow I had managed to avoid almost any description of the book since I first got it and did not realize that it was set in Chapel Hill, a place that is very close to where I grew up and one that I am very familiar with.

I enjoyed following Bree's journey in this story. Some of the themes are complicated, but are faced head-on, which I appreciate. There is diversity within the cast of characters, and there is also a fair bit of LGBTQIA+ representation!

If you are interested in historical myths and legends, magic and a bit of mystery, I thoroughly recommend this book.
