The main reason that this isn’t a 5 star is because when thy would explain the lore and history and magic It just went over my head for some reason. As for what I liked which was everything else btw. I really loved Bree and just her whole grieving process and her family and friendships. I also enjoyed learning more about her history. I enjoyed the discussions of race and all of that that includes. I also really enjoyed the budding relationship between Bree and someone. The ending action packed and I kind of didn’t see it coming.

It was a slow start but glad I stuck with it. The author deftly weaves legend, history and contemporary BIPOC experience

EVERYTHING I could ever want in a YA low fantasy novel.

Mixes our world with some King Arthur/ Knights of the Roundtable retelling and is just all around an epic novel.
This novel has it all: found family, secret societies, dark, shameful pasts, corrupt higher powers, demonic enemies, and magical lineages that trace all the way back to Kind Arthur and his trusted knights.

Tracy Deonn knocked it out of the pack. I cannot WAIT for Bloodmarked!!

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. It’s so fucking good. All of it. I wish it was 1000 more pages.

I'm so glad I stuck around for this one because it was so worth it. While I found the first half of the book hard to get into, probably because it was filled with grief and loss, and as  someone who's struggling with their own grief and loss I couldn't bring myself to listen. However I absolutely adored the second one (grief was still there, but it was not as heavy as it first was).
I have nothing but praise for Deonn for showing how easy it is to be inclusive towards queer and trans people in her writing.
Looking forward to reading/listening to the sequel.

ps: on a negative note, I was not sold on Nick from the beginning AND I was not a fan of the insta-love between him and Bree. Sel though, Sel I LOVED from his very first scene.
