7 chapters in and I'm hooked I love how detailed this book is and how everything  is coming together (I hate the person on audibile though no emotion at all)
"Dont make your life about the loss make it about the love"

"But medieval house of horrors would make a great band name"
Sarah also being super protective of bree warmed my heart and how she made sure bree felt included and safe

How nick acted towards bree was kinda cute was manifesting  they'd get together somehow

The charcters were all loveable I just kinda wish there was more description of each instead of bree sounding like she's just got "dead mommy syndrome"
This book is absolutely  addicting and I can't believe theres gonna 2 more after the 2nd one I'm gonna be so sad when I finish this book.

The audiobook person kept saying words that weren't there page 101 instead of saying  this is gonna be a long few months they said weeks
Arthur is said as author  it bugs me so much

I kicked my feet when bree was talking about nick to alice it was  so cuteee

"Please proceed with the gentle tounging!"
"You're not a damsel to me, Bree. You're a warrior. You're strong and  beautiful and your brilliant and brave. And I'd really like to kiss you"
THE KISS SCENCE  AHHH OH MY GOD

"Do I make you nervous"

This book  made me fall in love, cry and get mad multiple times fuck tor and sel let's send all the love to alice and nick.
So excited  to dive into book 2 and see all these charcters again!
Bree figuring out what happened  to her mom broke me
Brees dad 😭😭 I love him

Brees mums speech fuck man Tracy you got me crying
Bree talking with her grandma made me so happy
YES NICK GET YOUR GIRL

"What changed your mind about the gala?"
"Disney movies."
The love story about sel and nick was hella cute
Definitely recommend this book is my favorite ahh so much charcter development!

Kinda wattpad-y at some points and some characters & characterisations remind me so much of Heroes of Olympus that I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally riordanverse fanfic/ the author is a fan.
All in all, very gripping once past the first 50 pages -> I binged this. I love the characters so much + the exploration of how historical institutions are hostile to POC (esp in USA) stood out to me.
Had some flaws (
Sel's monologue at Nick's dad's house just felt like infodumping
+ so many characters they're hard to remember + sometimes the writing just felt clunky) but I greatly enjoyed it so 5 stars it is.

9/10. I really enjoyed this book. It gave me chills, made me very emotional, and made me really care about the characters. I was taken on such a journey throughout this story. There were so many parts of the story that surprised me and added to the complexity of the plot. Each turn deepened the connections between the characters and the past. The Arthurian legend and the magic feel unique and compelling to me. I'm not really into love triangles, but this one feels very organic. I found this book from booktok and I knew it had racial tensions/racism as part of the plot, but since I like to go into books mostly blind, I was not expecting the story to address generational trauma and touch on the traumas of enslaved women. This is not a negative to me, but just not what I was expecting going into it. I figured the racial tensions would be more microaggressions and modern racist topics (which were also explored). I think this book will be even more interesting after already reading it for the first time.

Is this the best book ever written? Maybe not.
Is this the best YA fantasy book ever written? Maybe?
At least, it's one of the best I've read. Truly, the writing is fantastic. I laughed, I cried, I was at the edge of my seat and turned page after page after page. And I just found out this is Tracy Deonn's debut novel?! What?!

Loved the writing. Looooved the characters, the character work, development, their dynamics are so good. There are some tropes I usually don't enjoy that much, but here I didn't mind, I was even invested. I'm here for it. And there is so much LGBTQ+ representation! Gay, Lesbian, Bi Characters, a non-binary one. And the way they are casually part of the story made me SO happy.
Also, Bree as the protagonist is such a delight to follow. Even when she is grieving and angry. I love her.

I'm a fan of Arthurian legends. One of my first fantasy books ever was a retelling of the legend. Since then, I've encountered many more and this one is so unique. I have to admit, it is confusing at the beginning. There is a lot of world building (A LOT), a lot of names, and details. The magic system is wild and equally confusing. And then halfway through the book a second magic system comes into play. And I loved this one even more. But it worked for me. In the end everything came together perfectly, the plot, the characters, the mysteries. The ending is so satisfying.

And all that, the character dynamics, the friendships, the romance, the magic, the (for me perfectly paced) plot is interwoven with themes like grief, racism, colonization, slavery, generational trauma in such a brilliant way. I could say so much more and talk about this book for hours on end, but I don't want to spoil anything. I'm just in love which this story and can't wait to continue with Bloodmarked right away.
