i loved this one so much!! such an entertaining and funny story!! it had all the makings of a teen summer camp romcom, while also holding a super important conversation about toxic masculinity and identity in the queer community. i also loved that this wasn’t a coming out story, but was still a story of self-discovery. i don’t think we get enough queer ya like that.

If I had a camp like this available to me when I was younger, I would have thrived.

While some people may argue that the characters are annoying and make foolish choices, I find it entirely endearing and accurate to a group of 16 year olds.

I was on the edge of my seat, curious to see how things would turn out.

An exploration of queerness through teenage logic. I love the balance of cheesy and serious, though I do wish
one of the main romantic storylines would have involved trans characters. All three were cis, even if nonconforming in presentation.
That said there were still trans characters and each character was beautifully written with true emotion and nuance.

This is a book I think I was too old to read, I still mostly enjoyed it. I didn't love the resolution at the end, I don't think it showed any maturity or growth in either character. I did find it to not be completely well written

it took a while for me to get into this book bc i just could NOT vibe with randy's entire plan but im glad i stuck it out because the message of queer individuality and expression was so important and so beautifully written. george was such a fun side character and it was lovely to see a queer camp environment with good friends + good staff

What a frustrating book. I see the value in its existence and hope someone saw themselves in it, but I don’t think I’ve related less to a queer story since Jenny’s Wedding. The portrayal of queerness seems stuck in a 2014 tumblr era of representation, and I often found myself agreeing with the character that I wasn’t supposed to agree with, that these characters are all walking stereotypes. The way sapphics are written in this book also didn’t connect with me or ring true at all. I’m not a gay man, so I don’t know if this is an accurate depiction of gay teen boy culture, but from the outside looking in this book was almost offensively out of touch. It’s crazy to me that there’s a whole arc written just to explain what demisexuals are, yet bisexuals get only one mention. Also, what an idiotic plan. I struggled to suspend my disbelief for much of the plot, and I don’t get what the message was supposed to be?
