The most poetic work from Dickens, too bad the characters are not memorable. The funny thing is, I enjoyed the abridged version that I've read years ago even more. I hate the ending, it could've been better and more sensible.

2.5 rounded up. i enjoyed great expectations so much that my expectations for this were, well, great. sadly, it did not deliver. i didn’t care about a single character in this book and i don’t think that’s because they were unlikable, but because there was no time spent on developing them or making the reader care for them. i didn’t even thoroughly dislike the evil characters because i just didn’t care. the twist didn’t feel like a twist so much as it felt like reading a mystery where the most important clues are kept from the reader but known to the detective. it didn’t feel shocking, just cheap. kinda felt like an off brand monte cristo. there were seeds of what i like from Dickens here, it just needed to be a hell of a lot longer or have many story lines cut out. we really could have sacrificed jerry’s storyline for more about sydney or madame defarge. overall, eh.

2.5 some part more interesting than others.

An emotional story brilliantly narrated during a crucial moment of our history, the mother of our European fight for democracy revolution. The echoes of this events are still being heard in present times.

Maybe I’m not smart enough for Dickens, but each time I try to read one of his greatest works, it exhausts me through and through. It was a real torture for me to get through this book (reading about 10 books in between). I did it and I have to admit: I really did not enjoy it. The writing, the characters, the story. All of it is just not my taste. So I think I’m giving up on Dickens for now, maybe I’ll try again some years later.

Read from a very young age (10 ish) and finished it roughly within two days. Do I need to write more about how good this book is?

Paris! London! Drama! I was kind of like,,,,, Charlie write a more interesting book??? But it WAS an interesting book it was also just a somewhat slow and meandering book. 3 or 3.5 stars.
