Another good book from James Newman. In ways I could tell that this was a first novel, but that is small stuff that did not affect my overall enjoyment of the book. This was more suspense then horror, but I thought that fit this coming-of-age story really well. I would recommend this to any fan of James Newman, and anyone looking for a good southern suspense read.

Been a few years since I read this, but i remember it being a great coming of age horror novel in the same vein as Clegg's neverland, King's the body or McCammon's Boy's life. Set in the 70's this is a great horror mystery.

coming of age, loss of innocence 👍🏼

A boy witnessed a horrendous act. An act that would end his innocence. An act that went down spiral from there.
Thought provoking introduction. Carefully paced, tension packed, twists and turns that leaves you wondering what happens next and at the same time never shying away from exploring topics such as family relationships.
Newman's Midnight Rain hits home on so many levels. Even though you'll ready know who survives (and don't) at the end, it doesn't take away the tension you'll feel while reading this wonderful piece of a book.
Another thing why I liked this book so much, is that when the narrator invited me to a trip down memory lane he doesn't just say 'Come' instead he holds my hand and never lets go. Especially that darn library scene - only difference is that our Librarian is cool.

OMJeebus, the lies run deep in Midnight!
This sure didn't make me giggle like People Are Strange, but the story is amazing! Every time I got comfortable, it slapped me in the face again!
