this was a very fun book, that i didn’t have to take too seriously. it’s a man who runs, and writes about his running. as a runner however - i do think it was good to hear the perspective of someone who isn’t so far up the ass of competition and times. this was much more reflective and meditative

Enjoyed this. Reflections on Murakami’s experience and Overall outlook on long-distance running as a fuel source for life as a novelist. His ability to write in a way that maximizes detail of everyday, often overlooked observations in a flowing, humorous way kept this moving for me. Planning on reading one of his novels next

I have to say, I found this book highly engaging. I normally read Murakami for his fiction, but I didn't realise his non-fiction memoirs about running was also an enjoyable read.
I happened to have picked up this book as I was browsing my local bookstore. I wanted to find a German-language book, and this caught my eye, primarily due to the fact that I am familiar with the author. And also perhaps because of the nifty title (What I talk about when I talk about running would be its English translation). I didn't realise that Murakami is an avid long-distance runner, and so this book provides some insight on an author that I admire. And even though I am not a runner, it was interesting for me to see how people with absurd goals (I mean, why would you want to run a 100-kilometre ultra marathon) train in order to achieve these.
I found it interesting that Murakami just started running in order to stay healthy, as after all, there is the stereotype that writers don't really lead healthy lives. They are always sitting down, writing, and they have some bad habit such as smoking or drinking. So he started running. And I suppose this habit just stuck. I also learned how training worked, not only the physical aspects of it, but also the mental ones, such as thinking that one's muscles are just machines, and that they should work, no matter what. I suppose that is how one can make the pain go away, in case the muscles are protesting and they don't want to run for you.
Overall, I found plenty of passion and dedication in this book. It's a great read in case you want to go inside the mind of a runner. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Although i'm really not into running, this book motivated me a bit about a healthier lifestyle and maybe about writing.
So... A nice one.
Also with this one i guess i completed my reading challenge half a year early. Gooooood.
