Not my favorite of Jay Kristoff's books, but I will absolutely read the sequel. I need to know what happens next.
Lifel1k3 has too many repetitions for it to be a 5 star read. I enjoy Kristoff's writing style but this time it just didn't work as good as in the Nevernight Chronicle. The last part of the book could have been tightened up and the plot twist sadly came as no surprise. But the literal last page saved this from becoming a 3 star read.

Anyone who wants an answer to the questions "What makes us human?" And what defines us?" You are welcome to read this dystopian sci-fi where the difference between humans and technology is gradually disappearing and the action is at home. While the well-defined characters will sometimes touch you with their tenderness and at other times arouse your anger or sadness through their actions, love and suffering make this story an explosive read.
It was ok but struggled to connect with the characters and plot was predictable. Full review to follow

Read this one for a backlist challenge and went in fairly blind. Overall, I thought it was a decent book, but not strong enough to keep me reading. I thought the worldbuilding was interesting - a mashup of Mad Max Fury Road and Blade Runner with a splash of Paradise Lost, but the story lacked subtlety so it was pretty transparent where things were going. Didn't care for the romance since it felt contrived and didn't endear me to the characters. What I did like was the flesh recycling ship that came out of nowhere and left just as quickly - such a wacky concept that really reignited my interest in the story. I don't think I am the target audience, but I enjoyed it enough to finish. Not really clear what happened at the end, so I don't see myself reading the rest of the series but this was a fun experiment at least.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning and never let me go. The girl power in this book is amazing especially in friendship between Lemon Fresh and Eve. Both Eve and Lemon Fresh are very bad ass characters. Lemon is fighting for her best friend in this book, and Eve is fighting for her future and her grandfather.
“Stronger together, together forever”
Lemon Fresh may be my favorite character in this book. I know we were to be following Eve and she was quite an amazing character. However Lemon Fresh really stuck out for me. She seemed so meek and mild because she was played off as this beautiful woman who probably couldn’t be counted on in a fight. Yet she has all this sass and fight in her, and she’s quite brilliant.
Every robot’s main job is to protect every human at any cost. It doesn’t mean they can’t be funny or loving at the same time, and I think that Jay Kristoff got that point across so well with Cricket and Kaiser. Kaiser is an amazing Robot/dog and Cricket is well I can’t explain it robot. I really enjoyed Cricket and Eve’s relationship, it added so much to this book. It was as if they had grown up together, it also added a little bit more when you threw Kaiser into the mix.
World building is amazing, I just couldn’t believe it. When reading this book I could picture everything so clearly. I have read the Illuminae files so I was familiar with Jay Kristoff’s writing before. However this book just seemed so much more, I don’t know if it’s because I was so much more immersed into the characters. Or because he had the world building so on point I couldn’t get past it.
I couldn’t get past the creepiness of the lifelikes!!! They look like adults but have the rational of children. They are also soooo perfect…. Was this a problem for anyone else? Maybe it was just me…
On top of all this amazingness we have a female main villain who isn’t battling everyone because of a BOY…. She is doing it because she is just EVIL. Muhahahhahaha

This is a tough one for me to rate, probably 2 1/2 stars, as some aspects I liked but overall I wouldn't recommend it. At the start I struggled with the lingo, and it completely annoyed and frustrated me. Then I got into the story and characters and enjoyed where it was going. Then I picked a couple of obvious twists in the story, lost interest, and didn't care how it ended

The themes of artificial life are interesting, and the world and concept are certainly unique. I just can’t get past the short. Choppy. Style. That repeats over and over. The characters are bland, save for some superficial characteristics (wow! Lemon uses unique quirky curses! Eve is so strong! Ezekiel is loyal and handsome!) I love the ties to outside sources (Asimov/Russian tzars) but unfortunately the reading experience was dull, despite the excellent world building. Reading about Ezekiel’s bow shaped lips for the tenth time didn’t really do anything to spice up the romance. Perhaps I’m just growing out of YA lit.
