Dakle, skoro sam odustala. Ali, s obzirom na broj knjiga koje sam ove godine DNFala, ovu sam odlučila završiti.
BOI, am I glad I did! Većina knjige mi je meh, ali zato četvrti dio... DAYUM! DAYUM! DAYUM!
Solidna četvorka.

Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting THAT

I found this lackluster and entirely too predictable. Still an enjoyable read and experience.

Whoa. What. A. Ride. I might be vaguely creeped out by androids forever, but WORTH IT because THIS BOOK you guys. It’s EPIC. That’s about all I’ve got right now, because my brain almost exploded. So. Freaking. Good. Go read this book!!!! Now I need a Cricket. ❤️ (I received an advance copy for honest review)

It hurts me to write this, because I've loved the Illuminae Files & Aurora Rising. And I know everyone adores Nevernight. I actually do love Jay's way of creating worlds and funny characters. From what I've seen from him, I love him as an author.

But this book lacked. The premise was promising. I love a good sci-fi romance with a pretty robot boy. I need more pretty robot boys (recs, anyone?). That said, I felt like I was missing the first half of the book. I wanted more of a foundation set, for the world and the relationships. I wanted to see and witness the romantic connection as it came to be. Maybe then all the betrayals and twists would have had more impact. I didn't feel like the stakes were high enough because I never got properly attached to the characters. I stuck around for Lemon & Zeke. Lemon was compassionate, had drive, wanted to stick up for her friends and be supportive. Zeke, albeit sometimes unsure what he was fighting for, had a goal and stuck to it. He was charming. I felt a friendship budding between him and Lemon. I loved when they were alone and able to interact.

Eve drove me up a wall with her double standards. I never felt attached to anything, and given the last twist, maybe there was a point to that. Eve never felt attached to the people around her, so why should I? Hell, I was more invested in Salvage as a character.

Now, I'm all for world building. I'm here for making the world/space in the book feel other. That said, I couldn't get past the odd terms. Frizzy? Bestest? I love reading young adult but this one felt too young for me. Some middle grade can blow me out of the water (I imagine Percy Jackson will) but this one just felt childlike. I admired the twist of religion, I loved the fallen angel concept. I just felt it severely lacked a connection.

For a younger audience, the instalove and shallow relationships would be enough. For me, I needed so much more. Again, I loved the premise of this. It has potential and because I'm oblivious half the time, the twist at the end did get me. Because I cannot DNF a series, I will most likely see this series through. I want to know how it ends. It just might take me a little longer than I had anticipated.

📝Short intro:

I haven’t read I, Robot but have watch the movies. Lifelike seems to be the new series if it were taken into another world.

🔎How I found the book:
Reading “the Illuminae files” series and the other works by Jay Kristoff, his books usually have 2 things:

📕indepth character development. What I mean by that is that you actually feel like you are learning new things about the characters every chapter and this influences the pacing of the story, which by the way, is really good. I was unable to put down the book and finished it in less than 2 days.

📘great pacing
Like many Young Adult series books, every chapter brings something new. Sometimes it’s secrets, other times it’s a new world. Kristoff keeps it fresh for the reader and I appreciate the reference he makes to the 3 laws from the originals.

In all, a great read that is a tad long (nearly 400 pages) but you’ll be well rewarded if you persist to the end.
