“Better to rule in hell,” the beautiful man smiles, “than serve in heaven”
Okay so this book has been sat on my shelf since it first came out and I’m so glad that I finally had the impulse to pick it up because I enjoyed it so much.
The writing in this book was so incredible, it was my first solo Kristoff book and his writing is incredible. He seems to be able to balance descriptions and actions in the best way as well as definitely not holding back on the emotional punches. I had to stop several times just to process what was happening because this book definitely caused me a lot of pain and I’m not okay.
I really enjoyed the characters - especially Lemon, I thought she was so wonderful and I think she truly cared about everyone around her and I’m so excited to see where her story goes! Again, I liked Eve too I thought she was a very interesting character who my heart just ached for so fucking much and that ENDING. Zeke again, I liked him and uncovering his secrets was interesting and again, he made my heart just ache and I can’t wait wIt to see what happens next. The names in themselves are SO clever and I just, I have come to the conclusion that Jay Kristoff is a genius and the retelling aspects I’m
”It’s simple to love someone on the days that are easy. But you find out what your love is made out of on the days that are hard”
Like I said, this book was not shy with emotion. It clawed me deep in my heart especially the last two or three chapters, they hurt so much and I’m not sure I’m ready to see where we go next because wow, I’m in pain.

Guyssss, GUYSSSSS. I finally finished Lifelike! It took me like three months... I shouldn’t have started this when I was in the middle of a reading slump. I’m so glad I picked it up tonight to finish it. So. Good. Loveeeeed the ending!
I can only give it four stars though as I have forgotten some things that happened before the last 200 pages. May reread it again when the second book comes out.

This book was at times a little dragging but I had fun predicting what would happen and I ended up enjoying this book. Definitely would have been 4 stars if not for some of the slower parts.

The fake slang thing didn't work for me at all. I might have liked it if I were thirteen years old, but alas, I'm not anymore. There are few cool things in the book but they were outweighed by the amount of *intentional* cringe-inducing misspellings (Holywood, Kalifornya) and dialogues.
The slang words get better after about 50 pages but they are still there and I never want to read the words "true cert" or "clueless, me" ever again. 🤬🤬
Here's a little glossary for those who want to read this book and I if I decide to read the next books (from my understanding):
Virtch - Movie/documentary/some kind of virtual reality device to watch videos
Homunculus- a very small humanoid creature or robot
Juve/juvette - boy/girl
Chassis - the base frame of a car
Cert - certainly
Ghost something/someone - kill something/someone
Abnorm - abnormal
Deviate - mutant
Brainmeats - brain
Fugazi is a slang for fake, short form is fug - "a common insult for logika, who were treated on the island as second-class citizens at best, and as simple property at worst."
Fizzy - good (used as we use cool)
Scav - scavenger
Creds - currency, money
Floatsam and jetsam - Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result from a shipwreck or accident. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by a crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship's load.

Too much squeezed in to too tight a space. Don’t know if I’m up for the sequel.

“Your past doesn't make calls on your future. It doesn't matter who you were. Only who you are.”
This was an unexpected jewel. I didn't think I would've loved this so much, or better said, I knew I was going to enjoy it because duh, look at the author. But going into it without knowing pretty much anything was the best choice.
This first book had it all: Robots and romance, blood and wit, fun and adventure. Badass female characters and crazy shit going on.
Exactly the kind of scifi that I enjoy reading about.
I really enjoyed the characters and plot, especially Cricket and Lemon were the best parts for me!
Lemon is the funniest character I've met in a while, and Cricket. Oh Cricket, my sweet summer child.
And the fucking ending. JAY. KRISTOFF. DID. IT. AGAIN.
“It's simple to love someone on the days that are easy. But you find out what your love is made of on the days that are hard.”
I really think this series will give me satisfaction, joy and pain in true Jay Kristoff style.
OWLS READATHON: read for the arithmancy prompt.

I started this book ages ago, and for some reason I couldn’t get past page 40, it took me forever to read those pages and I still don’t get why. Clearly I was in some kind of book slump and just not in the mood for a story like this, because I picked it back up two days ago and I couldn’t put it down!
I loved the storyline and the characters, lemon fresh is definitely a favourite and I’m looking forward to continuing this series.
And that ending I did not see coming! Loved it!

This book was mediocre. I grew bored of it, not because of the author, but because this is not my type of genre. I have read books by this author in the past and I adore them!! It's just the setting in this book is not my type of thing. So, if you like futuristic, robotic-apocalyptic books, this one is for you!!
