The LOGISTICS OF THIS BOOK are OFF THE WALLS BONKERS!!!!!! Like not to put too fine a point on it but the author CLEARLY knows figure skating (AND figure skaters, lmfao) but an editor? A sense of scene timing? idk SOMEONE obviously had a HEAVY hand in some of the logistics of this. We got pretty hand wavey towards the end. If you are a figure skating fan pls read this book and then DM me so we can giggle about it.

THAT BEING SAID I LIKED THIS SOOOOOO MUCH IT WAS SOOOOOO CUTE FR

i have a love/skate relationship with this book. (lol)
1) i really liked Charlie as the mc, and i wish Alexa had gotten a POV as well! i think it would have helped to flesh out her character more. without an Alexa POV, it was difficult at first to get a read on her, and i feel like we never got to see all her layers.
2) my interest in the story kind of fluctuated throughout the book. the plot was pretty typical, a bit on the younger side, and not very realistic, but i did enjoy how it ended.
3) i don’t know enough about ice hockey and figure skating to say how accurate all the terminology was, but the competitions bothered me to absolutely no end because what do you mean the skaters could hear the live commentary while skating?????? like, Charlie and Alexa would do a lift, and then they would hear the commentators say “Great lift! They really soared on that one!” (i made that up but you get the point) like what????? there’s no way!!!!! i’m guessing the author watched a bunch of skating videos, which usually have commentary over them, and somehow thought that the skaters can hear the commentary too??? it’s genuinely baffling and such an egregious error that i’m half convinced i’m missing something because surely someone should have caught this while editing if it really was wrong…
4) anyway, overall kind of mixed feelings. maybe i’m just not the target audience, but i did enjoy the premise; the writing just wasn’t for me. alas!

I really liked this one. So easy to get into, so seamless to follow. Charlie's a fun narrator, and I didn't expect to enjoy seeing everything through her eyes so much but I did.

Her and Alexa's story is endearing and funny and it has great banter and teasing. Incredible how much evolving one can do in six months inside and outside of themselves.

so disappointing!!! hockey player x figure skater is one of my favorite trope ever, especially if it's sapphic but the whole thing felt rushed and really unrealistic. Too bad
