I loved this. I loved this sweet romance full of heart, passion, and love of the sport. I binged it in two days, which isn’t out of the ordinary for me, but there was something special about this story.
Charlie and Alexa are really strong characters. They both have a deep love for their sport, and a stubbornness to be the best at it. But they also have big hearts. And complex feelings. Charlie’s drive has her prioritizing herself over others and Alexa’s perfectionism forces her to isolate. These were dynamic characters with fleshed out backstories. I found myself caring for them and rooting for them from the first pages.
This is a YA, written for teens. Which sounds like it should be obvious, but there is a lot of YA books out there that are written for an older audience. It was fresh to read Charlie’s first person POV and really feel like I was inside her head. She had big dreams but also flaws, like every other sixteen year old. She was confident in who she was on the ice, but an anxious teenager off it. It felt REAL, and I really appreciated that.
This was such a cute book. The premise was simple and it delivered in such a fun way. It made me miss hockey season (it literally ended this week lol), and want to see if I have any skills on the ice (I do not). I’m rooting for Charlie and Alexa, even after the final page.

Aghhhh. Cute at times, but I found the writing lacking and the whole thing incredibly trope-y (derogatory)
