Chewed through this on the flights to and from OOL. Such a great escape to another place so well described and such meaty characters. And Vera. Still not sure how I feel about the ending because I was reading it late last night. A good read though.

I love these books! The ending on this one wasn’t my favorite though. The killer was a bit expected.

An exhausting tale

This one, the current last of the series, was the most difficult read. More exhausting than the others. Anyway, it was a decent police procedural. Kept me guessing until the end. I always treasure the teamwork.

Ann Cleeves weaves a tale akin to the fog traversing the causeway at Holy Island. Each time the reader grasps a tendril of the possible truth of this story the fog thickens once again and certainty is no longer as certain. The characters are immaculately crafted and
the conclusion is heartbreaking but beautifully rendered.

I appreciated what I took as an acknowledgement that the body shaming thing is old news in the beginning of this one. The book felt tighter and then ultimately was so bittersweet...!
