This was a re-read from my childhood so it was joyfully nostalgic to revisit these characters.

It was ok. Kinda simple, more for of a middle school age book I thought.
I liked this book. I haven't seen anything like it before, so it interested me. The style of writing was good and the characters were funny and likable. It was a new concept and I couldn't put it down. It's a series, so after reading this one, I happily picked up the next. I definitely suggest for anyone!

3⭐️- Definitely having fun reading book series I couldn’t afford to buy at the school book fair as an adult to appease weird nostalgia for my horrendous middle school experience.
It was okay. It wasn’t horrible or anything but I thought that it was kind of boring and long. It isn’t a long book but this story was boring and just kept going for a long time and it felt like it could’ve been done very quickly.
I first read this in grad school. It was not as charming as I remembered it, but still it would be a good chapter book for the right reader (especially one fed up with family and wishing he or she was an orphan). It features an unloved and unlikable heroine who finds herself and an unabashed villain.
Kudos for featuring a friendly librarian! "The librarian's friendliness made her feel funny. Molly wasn't used to grown-ups being kind to her." (p. 24)

I wanted to like this more than I did. It was ok. I don't know that I will continue to read the series. This is a rare RARE comment from me (or most anyone really) but...the movie adaptation was better than the book. It stuck to the spirit of the novel and the characterizations...but had me saying "this is stupid" far less. I picked it up to see if it warranted the shelf space (we have the entire series) in my Juv Fiction section...and I guess it does. For now.
lil nostalgia read of a book i loved as a kid, obv it's not perfect i had fun :)
