Strayed's story is a great read and I liked the book, but towards the end it was feeling like the same things over and over. It was nice to read about who the author met on the PCT, but I felt that the second half of the book sped right through most of her time alone.
SpoilerThe beginning, where she's alone and reminiscing on her life going between her past and her present, hiking on the PCT alone, I felt was more engaging than the second half where she is describing this next person and this person. Most of the rest of the hike she spent camping with other people, and the points where she said she had to hike alone were truncated, I'd suppose because it was similar and might come off as repetitive.

I cannot imagine how strong a person would have to be mentally and physically, to set out on - and complete - the kind of quest Cheryl embarked upon. I'm glad she shared her story, because I really enjoyed reading about her journey and the community of people that built up around the Pacific Crest Trail. Without the trail, these people would never have come into each other's lives, and that would have been a great shame.

It's not about the terrible decisions that she made, it's about being brave enough to share them with the world.

I found her story fascinating and inspirational. I like how she included facts about the trail for people who don't know much about it, and how she tied in personal anecdotes. I would've gone crazy if the book were only a description of what she did on the PCT. I commend her for tackling the trail. The book itself, though, was just nice. I'd probably recommend it to someone outdoorsy or going through some type of midlife crisis.

This book left me wanting. I associate the beauty and grandeur of nature with The Creator. This book rang so very hollow with me as it ignored Him.
