“I am all in a sea of wonders. I doubt; I fear; I think strange things, which I dare not confess to my own soul.”

“I have a sort of empty feeling; nothing in the world seems of sufficient importance to be worth the doing.”

“I could not resist the temptation of mystifying him a bit, I suppose it is some taste of the original apple that remains still in our mouths.”

Having heard good things about the Audible version of Dracula, I picked it up during my three month free trial. It's the classic Bram Stoker novel about vampires, following a plethora of people that Dracula has both infected and affected. Surprisingly, most of the novel takes place in England and not Dracula's castle in Transylvania, which was unexpected. I did enjoy the book; that being said, it was very of-its-time. The ideas of gender roles and stereotypes were alive and well, which could affect some modern readers interpretation. It is an epistolary novel, told through letters, telegrams, newspaper clippings, diary entries, and the occasional phonograph entry; although it was multi-POV, I didn't think it felt overwhelming at all. Most of the story won't surprise modern readers; however, it is well worth the read (or listen!) for anyone who enjoys a vampire story.

The note at the beginning states "all needless matters have been eliminated" and I just don't think that's true.
