You know, it’s true what they say… you can’t help who you love or sometimes you end up loving the wrong person. But my god, what did I read? Stephen is a narcissist, psychopath and a manipulating jerk. Lucy just can’t resist his charm. The problem is, she won’t see Stephen for who he really is. The blurb is ridiculous saying, “Stephen sees something in Lucy no one else has.” Umm, no. He made her feel that way.

The blurb doesn’t give you any trigger warnings and this book definitely needs them - cheating, drinking, drugs/drug abusive, lying, etc.

It takes the whole book for Lucy to figure out what Stephen is hiding…literally the whole book. AND THEN HE LIES ABOUT IT.

TW eating disorders ????!!! why is no one saying that in their reviews???? the main character has an eating disorder and it is a big point in the first like 70% of the book and it really doesn’t get resolved? and she comments on people’s bodies in the worst and most horrible ways and you’re supposed to just be like okay slay. It barely gets talked about and her therapist literally just says they’re “eating issues.” It’s actually a raging eating disorder - SO BAD. If I knew that I wouldn’t have even picked this book up.

OUTSIDE of that this is actually the worst book I have ever read, ever. Nothing happens. Literally. It isn’t even “no plot just vibes” like the vibes were horrible too. The main character is dumb as hell. Every single character in this book was unlikeable for no reason. I finished the book because I guess I love to put myself through pain

Gawd, I hated this book. I decided to DNF it at 50%, but then an hour later the idea of not finishing bugged me too much so I pushed through. Every single character was so awful and unlikeable. I get that college is the time for a bit of experimenting and finding yourself but this book was nothing but toxic relationships, cocaine galore, eating disorders, and just ugh. I was NOT into it. And honestly the odds of the situation that ties this whole thing together, so ridiculously low. Ew, and StoryGraph put this in my romance genre column and that is gross. Anyway, that’s enough hate. I’ll never watch the Hulu show but I will continue to wear my Baird College sweatshirt. 🤪

Not the kind of thing I usually read but I enjoyed it. I liked the exploration of a "regular" sociopath, rather than the extreme murder-y sociopath that usually gets written about.

This book was beyond predictable… obviously we know the ending the ending is explained in the beginning. But the “surprise” that no one is supposed to “know” became very predictable because Lucy is a little selfish and it all ties together. Now I know she’s supposed to be selfish because at some point we all are but there definitely comes a point where it turns into him being a manipulative piece of shit. They both were toxic they both had their problems but I kept reading because it felt too real if something I went thru. Also tv show misses some really good point in the book
