This book is one of the delicious reads that sweeps you away to another time and place. I purposely took my time in finishing it because I enjoyed it so much...

A very powerful read...

Hannah is able to drop the reader in war torn France during the Nazi occupation into the lives of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle and the impact of the war on their relationship as sisters and personal relationships. Vianne and Isabelle eventually go their own ways during the war but their stories are intertwined through their family (albeit sometimes strained) relationships. Hannah centers the story on the impact of the war on Vianne and Isabelle and the difficult choices they continually have to make and how they reconcile with those decisions. Hannah also does a great job with character development and the story line is complex enough to make it interesting, but not so complex you cannot follow the characters.

At the beginning of the book, I thought I would add this to one of my top 10 favorite reads... later I changed it to one of the top 5 ... now that it's done, it's in my top 3 !!
Finished the book earlier today... excuse me while I go work through my grief that it ended.

The way I have been destroyed so many times during this book. Thank god I saved the last 10% for reading alone in my bed bc I sobbed so hard I could barely see. Wow Kristen Hannah I need to catch my breath

This book was beautiful. The ending made me cry. The audiobook was narrated beautifully. Idk why it took me so long to finally read this book. I will be feeling it for weeks.
