Wow! I didn’t think I could ever enjoy a historical fiction but this book proved me so wrong! This story about two sisters living through WWII in France was a work of art. The characters felt real and there was several times on the way to and from work where I audibly gasped from what happened in the audiobook. Even if you don’t like historical fiction, I recommend this book!!!!!

Incredible read, I struggled to work through the beginning of the book as I don’t understand French but slowly I made up words and continued on. This book made me feel so many feelings deep in my heart. So much pain for the loss that was World War 2. The characters, the growth, I cried multiple times reading this. I will be recommending to everyone!!

Sounded like it was right up my alley and I really wanted to like it

Too overly descriptive for my tastes and the French phrases thrown in feel so forced and definitely scream “an American who is obsessed with Paris wrote this”

Some lines made me roll my eyes and I was physically cringing from the beginning

The book is basically the same plot as every non-Jewish, women focused WW2 novel/tv show/movie regurgitated

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2537754688 excellent explanations on how this book is harmful in its inaccuracies of the Holocaust and antisemitism in France. As a history nerd it’ll only make me more angry if I continued. If you want a book set in WW2 set in France, please read Sarah’s Key as it’s actually historically accurate about how the French treated Jewish people
