Unlike other books by this author. Would not recommend unless you’re really into historical fiction and/or WWII

I reserve 5 stars for books I would read again. I would not read this again. It's incredibly sad, to the point that it's not entirely believable. For the majority of the book, I thought I'd give it maybe 3.5 stars and I was wondering what I was missing... So, why does this book have such amazing reviews? The end is really spectacular. It was solidly a 4-star book after reading the end.

So amazing, heartbreaking, emotional, and beautiful. This book was worth every second and every page 🤍 The author writes in a way that makes you feel and truly connect with both main characters. I really appreciated the steady, but not too confusing, transitions between their points of view in the novel. Their growth was really so interesting and heartfelt to read. You truly connect and experience every single emotion with them. The story also highlights the strength and power in women in historical moments that are almost always surrounded around the highlights of men. You will feel empowered, scared, brave, ambitious, and extremely emotional. I love the female empowerment, romance, family and platonic love, and determination in the writing. The book shows that love is what can keep people strong in the most traumatic times. Wounds heal. Love lasts. 🩵

It made me cry multiple times. I had no idea French people suffered so much during WW2. It was very heavy, but extremely well written.

Kristin Hannah's "The Nightingale" weaves a captivating story of love, sacrifice, and resilience. It’s both raw and thought-provoking throughout, especially poignant when read in November- a time of reflection on the courage of those who both served and lived through wars. The story had a slow start, but my initial reservations were shattered as the truly moving narrative unfolded. Be prepared for a tearful ending. A must-read that earns a heartfelt 4.5 stars.
