Batman: Gordon of Gotham collects three stories that all center around Jim Gordon, the current police commissioner of Gotham City. The stories are Gordon’s Law, GCPD, and Gordon of Gotham. The first two are written by Chuck Dixon, while the third is by Dennis O’Neil.

Gordon’s Law begins with showing Jim Gordon in charge during a robbery/hostage situation. I loved seeing how in control of the situation he was and how everyone respected and listened to him. It eventually slides into Gordon taking on a case that he very well could have pushed off to others since he’s in a position of power. But he feels like it should be something he should look into, that he too can get his hands dirty like the people he commands.

GCPD is more about the police officers that Gordon is in charge of which allows a good look at Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, and a few others. There were a few cases going on in this arc that had a good sense of mystery.

Gordon of Gotham was Jim Gordon recalling his time as a rookie cop in Chicago, trying to do right while plagued by corrupt officers and officials. It was his first time operating outside the law in order to get a case solved and I love that he felt that doing this is what allowed him to be able to work with a vigilante like Batman.

This collection was excellent. I loved getting a deeper look at Jim Gordon and some of the other Gotham officers. These truly were their stories, with no shoehorning in Batman just because we’re in Gotham. I would expect nothing less of both Dixon and O’Neil. The mysteries in each of these stories were well-done and never showed their hand too soon. It was almost like watching a cop show. If you were ever interested in stories centering around the GCPD and Jim Gordon then you should definitely check out Batman: Gordon of Gotham!

I wondered what a graphic novel about Gotham, but without Batman, would be like. It turns out, it's not particularly interesting. It's all very noir, but all kind of pointless. Even Gordon doesn't appear very much in the middle of these three stories. I liked the third story the best (though I think it should come first in this collection), for the background it gives on Gordon's early career. The art is a little better in that story, too.

Mostly forgettable. Batman is necessary.

a Very good book about the past of Gordon and how he became what he is today, it was a gripping tale and i would have given it 5 stars but it was low on action and the participation of Batman was almost negligent , also the end was kinda rushed and that's that overall not as bad as the ratings would suggest

Surprisingly good (though the final line of the volume is terrible). I wish the tv show GOTHAM had taken a page out of this.

Very interesting reading Batman comics with very little or no Batman in the stories. Gordon is a fascinating character though and very much worth the read

"You're a bastard, Gordon. But you're an honest one."

"No relation between the stiffs. They were all male and got bears delivered to them."

I just want someone to read this line without any context.
