While I hate Snow, it was cool reading about the past. I liked learning more about past Panem and the early developments with how the Hunger Games would eventually pan out.

Collins does a wonderful job encouraging readers to sympathize with evil without softening the story or shying away from the morbidity of the material. This story feels complex in a way that surpasses the previous works in the series, although those have their own merits as well. Although character groundwork was laid, the ending still felt a bit abrupt. Very solid all around, from characterization to plot to writing style.

This book is a great exploration of the mind of President Snow, it has many plot twists and helped give me a better understanding of the origional 3 books. Might even beat the origional series in my opinion.
