Suzanne Collins has done it again!!! Ok, I was VERY wary going into this book. Why do I need to read a book about how one of the most awful dictators came to be??? I could not have been more wrong. THIS IS A VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY!! oh it was so good. So many morally gray characters! So much nuance around oppression and survival! Oh Lucy Gray you are everything I want in a heroine.

A fascinating look into Snow’s journey to being the tyrant we know from the original trilogy, the red flags were there from the beginning. I am choosing to believe
that Lucy Gray survived and escaped into the woods and doesn’t just live on through her songs.
The pacing was a little off sometimes but overall exciting and gripping. Suzanne Collins is a genius.

This book was very whatever. I liked the last section of the book because that's what really matters, but I didn't care about the beginning one bit. I'm glad I completely finished the Hunger Games though!!!

I loved being able to get inside Snow's head and understand his thoughts and how he becomes the man we see later on. I loved all the hints to the later books. I still don't think anything can be compared to the original Hunger Games but I really enjoyed this!

Knowing the story of the hunger games I have always wondered what made Snow so evil and after reading this book I was blown away with his story. I was worried that the author was going to take the approach of making you feel bad for the villain, but instead she does the opposite. You don’t feel bad for Snow, he makes his choices all on his own and you do not feel any sympathy towards him and that is what makes it so good. You see how the evil is made and it is written so well. Lucy Gray is a beautifully written character and it is so sad she has to be apart of Snows rise to evil.
