This book has the three plays in the order they were written, but the story really is Oedipus the king first and Antigone last. Greek tragedies are quite bloodcudlingly gruesome… but I thought Antigone was BRILLIANT and Oedipus the king even more so, in fact it is amongst my favourite reads ever. Easy to read and gripping. Oedipus at Colonus was boring tho. I bet these plays were incredible when they were first performed. I’d love to see one.
As with these stories from so long ago… all trigger warnings apply!

Only re-read Oedipus Rex for LIT2000, and yet again immensely enjoyed the play. With easily digestible yet impactful dialogue chockful of irony, knowing the outcome of Sophocles' Oedipus Rex made it even more enticing to read. The final act of this play even when read is so visceral that it feels as if it was performed in front of me. I hope to soon finish this novel and read the other two Theban plays by the timeless Sophocles.

Only read “Oedipus Rex”

Great classic; Doesn't matter how you feel about it, you should read it anyways!

One of my more basic opinions is that these are the greatest Greek tragedies. Ah well, can't be unique in every opinion.
