I really liked these stories. I've read Sleepy Hollow multiple times, but I've always wanted to read Washington Irving's other stories. I'm not sure which one was my favorite. Sleepy Hollow is already a favorite. Rip van Winkle is a great story. So is The Spectre Bridegroom. I would definitely reread these stories again.

I’m shocked at how precisely and faithfully the cartoon captures this tale. A classic nonetheless.

Came for the Sleepy Hollow, stayed for the piles of other short stories.

Sleepy Hollow is the classic story of the nerd and jock competing for the affection of the rich girl. The nerd gets friendzoned and then the jock terrorizes the nerd by throwing things at him as he is on his way home.

I don't think I've read any Irving before but I liked the short stories collected. I don't know why, but I expected a book written in 1820 to have a lot of obscure language in it, but this was surprisingly easy to read. Unexpected favorite is the letters to the newspaper by an old man complaining about "kids these days with their ankles showing and lack of morals."

This is another short story for this October period, and one that I’ve wanted to read for a little while. I’ve always been interested in the story of the Headless Horseman and was quite pleased when I found the story online.

The fact that this is a short story really works for the actual contents of the story, given that everything does end up resolved and doesn’t seem to leave you wanting to know more.

Unless that’s just me, which is entirely possible.

I don’t know how I feel about the character of Ichabod though, I feel like if I knew him in real life I might have wanted to kill him as well.

I read this for a Halloween reading challenge. It's a fine read, but I've enjoyed retellings of it far more in the past.
