I am definitely happy I found this one during my bargain miracle hunt. :P
I still want to play the game for this one, and also for all the others in this genre. I also have to say that this intro, while for a earlier series, is immensely helping me if I want to try my hand on watching Devil Survivor 2 again. So many explanations about skills, monsters, demons, and more. Sure, DS2 is quite a bit different, but it quite cleared up some questions I had when I watched the first episode back when it first aired. The Devil Survivor 2 show just jumped right into the action, and as of today I was quite confused about a lot.
This was a really good volume with lots of action, with lots of things happening, but all explained really well. Our group of 3 gets some modified comps and find out they can summon monsters to battle other monsters. I loved how our group didn't immediately know what to do, that there was much confusion and fear, I always find it a bit boring when a MC just immediately knows what to do, it just doesn't feel real.
The monsters are creepy, deadly, and will not stop until they reached their goal.
Out of the 3 characters (not counting Naoya) I loved the MC the most, followed by Yuzu, though then the later Yuzu. In the beginning she was just a bit too annoying. Yes, I can understand these monsters are scary, but it is either fight or die.
The MC was great, resourceful, helpful, friendly. He tried his best to help his friends, he is the one figuring out how things work. Plus I liked how he looked. :P
I am really curious about why Naoya picked these 3 (yes, they are friends, but I am sure there is a deeper reason), and what is going on with the world. Why did monsters suddenly start appearing? What is up with the underground? Are the toxic gasses real?
The art is pretty great, and I like it a lot.
All in all, I definitely have to hunt for the rest of this series as I want to see what happens now. Can this world be saved? Will we gain more friends that can help out?

I liked this it was like digimon and Pokemon in concept (a sort of game) but much more bloody and violent
Finding the manga for this game series has taken me on a huge nostalgia trip. I'm 23 and I played this game for the first time when I was 11 and it was my first introduction to Shin Megami Tensei games and JRPGs and I instantly fell in love with the games.
Onto the actual manga, I like how they made the silent protagonist a well rounded character with a personality. I'm also noticing a few slight differences between the manga and the game, such as the 3 initial demons the trio meets being different, or the spell maragi being changed to maharagi. Otherwise, the manga stays very true to its source material.

So much happened in this volume. It looks like the manga used keisuke's angry dialogue because he found Midori dead, but Midori doesn't end up dying so the manga is starting to kinda do its own thing. The extra short stories at the end of the manga were hilarious.
This volume was mostly action and went by so fast that I didn't even realize how fast I was getting through it till I was already on the last chapter.
It's interesting seeing which route of the game the manga is going with, specifically in regards with the choice to have Kaido kill Keisuke rather than having the main characters successfully save Keisuke.
This volume pretty much confirms that Honda is not going to be involved in the manga's story at all, as he was shown for only 2 pages attempting to escape the lockdown and he wasn't even mentioned by name so that's kind of a bummer.
I love that the extra chapter at the end gave more of Naoya's lore and backstory (he's my favorite character love that freak).

The story in this volume differs a bit from the game to give Kaido and Mari better introductions than they had in the game and I really like this decision because in the game it felt like they faded into the background until day 4 or 5.
Although I'm also a bit confused as this volume is supposed to cover day 3 of the game and Honda still has not been mentioned yet. After this volume is day 4 of the game, which is when the game starts splitting into different events depending on player choices so I'm excited to see which route is explored in the manga.

Belial's battle takes place in this volume and I love the changes that the manga makes to the battle. It's already a very intense moment in the game, but to also include Gin confronting Azuma and then having him join in on the Belial fight was great to see. Having Haru be deceived by the Belial's flames into seeing Aya and then have the hallucination coerce her into singing the summoning song adds a lot more depth to her character here compared to the game, since in the game it feels like she's kind of just there.
Mixed feelings on this volume of the manga compared to the other volumes because it feels like they tried to squeeze too much of the story into this volume. The battle with Jezebel and the revelation that Naoya and Kazuya are reincarnations of Cain and Abel were handled well, but the fight with Belzaboul/Beelzebub was kinda pathetic and felt extremely rushed.
Definitely the best volume in the series, I can see why the physical copies are so hard to get a hold of. I really liked the feel-good ending that the manga went with. I sorta wish Lucifer and Metatron were featured a bit more since I love their boss fights in the games, but nevertheless I think that this manga series was an excellent adaptation of the game.
