Had to read for school. It's the first greek play that I've read, and it was pretty cool. I definitely want to read more greek plays.

I haven't read a lot of classical Greek and know the disney version of Hercules so you can imagine what a ride I had reading this. I genuinely feel sorry for this Greek hero. His journey is crazy and f*d up. Since the beginning of the play you have this sense of doom. I feel sad that Oedipus is a lost cause and I constantly felt a need to help this tragic fictional man. Oedipus seems like the only character kept in the dark about the situation he's in. He's condemned to kill his father and sleep with his mother and he leaves his "homeland" to avoid that fate. Little did he know, he's adopted and ends up killing his father in a quarrel and defeats a sphinx and ends up marrying his mother (not knowing she's his real mother lol). This story made so angry. I was constantly wanting something good to happen to this man.

A tragic classic. I already knew the story but finally I can say I've also read it. Fate is an interesting thing. I wonder if his fate would've been fulfilled had he not been sent away as a child? You see, he only killed his father and married his mother because he had no idea of their real identities — not because he wanted to specifically harm his parents, which you can also see in his self-destructive reaction to the horrible realisation.
