Although it’s not my favourite of Khaled Hosseini’s, I think it’s impossible for him not to write great novels. Definitely a must read.

I agree with some of the reviews that say there are lots of characters and it reads somewhat like short stories. I rather liked it, as a different angle, and it's like real life--so many people connecting with each other during parts of their lives.
This is the first book of his I read, and now I know why they say he is a masterful story teller. His writing style is so perfect to me, it's beautiful without being too prose-y.
Made me really excited to read his other books which I believe are rates higher on good reads. I purposely read the one less liked so I could increase the wonderfulness with each book!
And also some reviews said there wasn't enough talk about the war and how it affected the country. I personally thought it was discussed to the right degree for what the story was telling.

I loved the kite runner and thousand splendid suns, so I splurged on this book. It is his first "happy" book. As I was nearing the end I realized how much more hopeful this book was. Yes, there is still sadness and loss and disappointment throughout, but this book tells the story of Afghanistan- the bad, the good, and the connectedness of it all. This book tells the story from multiple points of view. I love books like this- where everything fits in together and you learn a little more with each perspective. It was hard to put down and a good book to start as I returned to walking on the treadmill.

Just not as enthralling as his first two books. He writes beautifully, but it just didn't captivate my emotions as his first two books did.

Oh my goodness. I cannot remember reading such a wonderful book. So emotional and beautiful and amazing. He did not let me down. What an amazing story tell, one of the very best. I smiled and teared up thought the book; I could not put it down. This novel will capture you completely. I love that the story was so different that his previous 2, but the emotions and writing is the same. Wonderful! I cannot stop gushing and will recommend this to EVERYONE!

Didn’t like the beginning. Got really good in the middle. Ending dragged a bit too long

I'm at a loss of words to describe the feelings this book evoked in me.

There were so many characters with such detailed back stories that it got overwhelming at times. But the beauty of this book lies in its people. There isn't a straight forward plot or a purpose to be achieved.

You weave through the lives of each character, sometimes directly, while at times through their relations. Every time you finish a story though, you come to realize these are normal people, someone who could very well exist in real life. They have made their fair share of mistakes, but nothing was done out of spite, it's all a part of human nature.

You feel for these people, at their sufferings, their intent to set every thing right, their regrets but alas, not everything can be fixed now, can it? They learn to accept life as it is and somehow that heals a little something inside you, the reader.

I enjoyed this book as I've never read something like this before. People who read books for a direct plot might not exactly love this. I myself had a hard time adapting to it. But those that read for characters, these are going to stay with you.
