THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. The character development of each and every character is so complex, diverse and multi-layered. The plot-twists kept coming and coming and I never expected a single one. It was definitely the most intense, gruesome and dark out of the series but sets up the last book perfectly.  It is definitely my favorite so far into the series but each book just gets better and better and I feel like I am actually inside the Empire and living beside these characters and the crazy things that happened in this phenomenal book.

WOOF THAT WAS GOOD!!!!! i'm so glad i already own the 4th book and don't have to wait for it to come out for me to read it bc that ending....that would have killed me if i had to wait months for the release of the next book.

i will say this book took me a while to get into...it was probably page 200 before i was really invested in the story again. i think this was partially due to the fact it's been a few months since i read the first two books in the series and had to get reacquainted with the world and the politics of everything. but once things got going in the second half of the book.....WOW BESTIE!!! U GOT ME!!!!

laia continues to be a legend...that GIRL....everything and more! i honestly enjoyed all of the perspectives in this book which was surprising considering how helene was one of my least favorite characters in the first two books. she's....grown on me i can't lie.

also this book had some twists that left me MOUTH AGAPE. i also cried so extra points for this book for managing that...and now i'm scared for the 4th and final book shshshs girl help

Truthfully, I don't have much to say about this book. I've really found this entire series to be dragging and while I keep hoping there will be something that hooks me and makes me want to stick around, there isn't. It's really depressing. At the end of every terrible moment, I expect there to be some kind of redemption and there isn't. It just gets worse. I'll be reading the last book to finish out the series, but I can't say I've enjoyed this, which is a huge bummer.

I liked this book a little bit less than the first two. I think it's because we don't get to see much of Laia and Elias together. In the second book, they were together almost the whole time, and I fell in love with their dynamic. I also felt like there was almost too much going on. It was like I didn't have enough time to revel in victories before a new problem was introduced; I felt cheated out of that moment of triumph. It makes sense from a pacing perspective, but the pacing could've been a little bit slower at certain points. YET, the insane plot twists do continue to send me, and I spent about the last two hundred pages of the book screaming.

Stunning third instalment in the an ember in the Ashes quartet. Tahir's writing is brilliant and the way she constructed the changes in the POV’s meant that you could not put this book down. The Roman inspiration shines through and every twist and turn leaves you breathless. The character development and plot development were truly staggering. I cannot wait to pick up the final instalment where I know I will be an emotional wreck. But what's new?! The only slight critique I would have is that I wished the battle scenes were more detailed and drawn out as that would have truly made the tension mount.
