The first two books moved so fast and then this one was so slow and blah.  Nothing was answered which in turn felt like the entire series and games were pointless.  It just honestly still makes me a little mad when I think about how this story ended.

i honestly dont know how to feel. its compelling and action packed but lacked heart on occasion and i dont mean i want like "maybe friendship was the true prize" stuff i mean the writing lacked genuine-ity. and dont even gegt me started on that moment. you know the one near the end right wtf. and the ending seemed too open so many unanswered questions

This series is what I wanted out of Hunger Games in terms of pacing and emotional gravity. It's fast, but you still feel it when key characters die, which I felt was missing in parts of Mockingjay. Getting to the third book in the series, I literally gasped into my book as characters that had made it through so much of the series were knocked out of the game. For sure an example of "kill your darlings", which was a theme right from the start.

I liked the diverse cast that continued into this book, the incorporation of the Dreaming from Australian Aboriginal tradition in a positive and powerful way, the collection of badass women, and the international travel. As with the first two books, this took a minute to get running, but the last 80 pages I was practically tearing them out of the book to get to the end, and I was kept guessing on who was going to get to the end alive.

Good for an older teen audience (I only suggest that because it's pretty violent) and a great read-alike for fans of Hunger Games, Divergent, and Legend. Also if you like The Amazing Race tv show, this is a lot like that, but with not dying in the apocalypse as your prize. I know that movies have been "in the works" for this series, and I hope they get made!
