What a shitshow. This has some of the finest vocal/acting talent out there and some of the best production values I've yet encountered on an audiobook. So far, so good, right? The problem comes with the stories themselves. It's kind of like they blew their budget on all of that hot shit talent and then said, "Go down to the corner and find the first handful of people you see to write us some stories." I'm exaggerating a little, of course, but they are pretty bad. They're either poor efforts at stories or good premises for stories that go nowhere. Half baked? More like one-eighth baked. The lone exception is The Little Drifter Who Could, which is read by the incomparable Wendell Pierce (from The Wire). I don't know if it's the story, his reading of it or some combination of the two, but I actually found myself laughing out loud multiple times over that one. Otherwise, this is a bust.

Meh. A couple of them were pretty great, but a pretty uneven collection of stories.

I'm giving this book a 4 because the voice actors were great, Nick Offerman's segments were super funny, and some of the stories made me laugh out loud. There are a couple dud stories, but that usually happens with short story collections. These stories are billed as for cynics, but they are actually slightly darker than that. If you're looking for creepy yet funny stories, this set oddly fits the bill.

Many people have mentioned the sound effects and music in their reviews. If that's not your thing, that's understandable. Samples are your friend. I personally like sound effects and music, and I thought the audio effects were great here because they were cheesy like the stories and reminded me of Twilight Zone episodes. Not every likes campy so steer clear if that's you. I do agree with many people on the balance of sound though because the music was too loud sometimes, and I think Audible should work on that.

Overall, I thought it was fun, and I'm glad I got this one as one of my free choices.

I think I liked the first installment better, but there were a few gems. Steamy scale 1 of 5 (Audible)

The audio wasn’t mixed well. The music was too loud and sometimes drowned out the voices. I would have given 3 stars if the recording was better.
Some stories were funnier than others, but it wasn’t overly impressive. It was trying to hard to sound like David Sedaris and missed the mark.

I love cynical and dry humor. This was neither. It was described as " clever and occasionally downright dark parodies of the classic kids genre", but it wasn't. It was truly awful, poorly done stories, none of which were funny in any manner.
