“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”

This book was amazing and that's something I did not expect to say when the topic involves this book but it is and I can't even deny it. I started reading it hesitantly because I knew that the first part is Addie's story after she was kidnapped. When the author's note mentioned that this book is darker than the first one, I thought, okay, I can handle it. I was so wrong. This book is dark DARK dark. I need to have the best stomach going in this book because I needed it. So many wrong shits has been happening. Adeline's POV showed us the perspective of people who were being trafficked into sex slavery. That first scene where she was taken against her will, I was just cringing and praying it will never happen to me. I don't think I'd live after what she's gone through. Then there's Zade's POV where you see him struggle with losing his mouse. He was willing to do everything just to get her back. He knew what was currently happening to her and he can't do anything. It took half the book just for them to get back together but damn, that first half of the book is pretty traumatizing. I can't believe such people exist. I'm in a very comfortable bubble that do not know what's happening on the other side of the world.

Thank you, H.D. Carlton, for showing us a preview of it. I'm sure a lot worse is happening somewhere.

“I’ve followed you through lifetimes, Adeline. My soul needs you so badly that I’ve become a shadow, destined to hunt you for eternity.” ೃ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚

ᯓ★ Rating!

› Genre: Dark Romance, Mystery/Thriller, Suspense, New Adult Fiction
› Tropes: Serial Killer, Stalker Romance, Possessive MMC, Touch Her And You Die
› Medium-Paced, Dual POV

ೃ — Adeline gets kidnapped by an organization, this cruel episode changed her for the worse, and she began fashioning herself as an angel of death. Now, Adeline is determined to get back at her kidnappers with the help of her stalker and now-boyfriend, Zade.

This book was way darker and more violent than the first book, but I devoured it. It proved once again, that I love morally gray men over soft dreamy boyfriends in books. I am: so inlove with Zade. Call me twisted, but I would never hate him no matter what! His affection for Adeline was admirable, despite the fact that their love story started in a very twisted and violent way. And yes, there’s a lot of disturbing scenes that might be triggering to some, so please mind the warnings before reading. If someone will ask me for a dark romance book recommendation, Cat And Mouse Duet will be on the top of my list.

Note: The story contains triggering contents, so please check trigger/content warnings and read at your own risk.

This was my very first "dark romance", and I am ADDICTED 🥵 This series was full of rightful trigger warnings and very heavy subject matter, but that did not slow me down as I could not put them down!! The spicy scenes were very evenly spaced and absolutely wild, I definitely felt like I had a reading-hangover after completion.

Despite how extremely dark this book is, it holds a place in my heart. The resilience Addie has and the portrayal of PTSD brought up emotions from my own past I wasn’t quite aware I was ready to face head on yet. A very healing read for me, which is probably not what I or anyone else would expect. Either way, I loved this book, and it’s getting a reread at some point so I can annotate the heck out of it.
I also would’ve rated 5 stars but I felt the conclusion was rushed.

This book is undoubtedly darker than the first book, however, in comparison to the first book it feels like it does little to further the plot and felt gratuitous at points. Part II echoes the first book more closely but somehow Zade's ego and self-comparison to a deity is even more prominent. Worth a read to complete the duology but wouldn't tempt enough for a re-read.
