I actually liked this sci-fi classic more and it’s pure form than any other version I’ve seen or read. Written in 1898, the idea of these Martians showing up and decimating. London is far more terrifying than showing up in modern Society with the kind of fire power we have. HG Wells just has an amazing imagination to come up with this so long ago. The narrator is not a hero like Tom Cruise in the Spielberg movie. He is a victim and a survivor. It reminded me of watching Roman Polanski‘s The Pianist… with hopelessness being at the forefront of the entire story.
Whenit segues from book 1 to book 2, there is a very awkward chapter about biology, that felt completely out of place, but otherwise this story raced along and was incredibly interesting and spooky. I can’t wait to keep reading HG Wells because he hasn’t failed me yet.

Very good book. Kept me on the edge. A little bit disappointed by the end tho.
