This was an emotional read and I truly enjoyed Marina’s writing - except for ‘Why We Care about Whales.’ As an animal advocate and someone who also volunteers for human causes, it’s true that you in fact can care about both and donate your time and money to helping both. Just because you are saving whales one day doesn’t mean you are not volunteering at a soup kitchen or holding someone’s hand while they are dying in hospice the next day. Had Marina had more time she may have eventually realized this and changed her stance, or possibly stood resolute in her opinion - one will never know. She was a talented writer with so much promise and it’s a shame she was taken so soon.
