I have to say I ended up liking Wilder a lot more by the end of this book than I thought I would. This was a fun Grumpy/Sunshine, age gap romance. Iris was fun and free spirited. I loved that she just enjoyed being herself. I hate that so many people judged her for so many things without even trying to really get to know her. Wilder’s parents are honestly the absolute sweetest couple!

This is the sixth book & final book of the small-town drama series that takes place in Calamity Montana.
Widowed H.S. science teacher who enjoys his solidarity agrees to host his best friends little sister for 2 months. Turns out she's the perfect balance to his broody personality. This dynamic duo's chemistry will be highly reactive & likely bubble over.
Wilder is a grumpy widower who is just trying to live his life. He is the broody science teacher at Calamity High & the mean teacher that Lark (from the Brawl) has issues with. His lifestyle is super minimal & reclusive. He carries the weight of his wife's death with him every day & doesn't feel deserving of happiness.
Iris is an explosive bundle of sunshine. She is vibrant, curious, freespirited, & just takes life by the horns. She is a social media influencer with a penchant for uprooting every 2 months. A new place to visit, new experiences to have, etc. Her family doesn't quite understand the lifestyle & seems to want her to conform to a normal job.
Wilder never judged Iris or asked her to change herself to be anything different. He enjoyed how different she was from his late wife. I really liked it when Wilder told her that he hated the "normal" outfit that Iris put on to meet his parents. It wasn't Iris. He knew it. I loved that.
I was really sad for Wilder's situation. The fact that he blamed himself for his late wife's accident - & has been for nearly 10 years - is absolutely heartbreaking. His guilt really weighed heavy on his heart & I only wish someone talked to him sooner. I love Iris' involvement & emotional support on this plot line. She was such a loving strength when Wilder needed her.
I enjoyed Iris' level of persistent patience when it came to getting Wilder to open up to her. She is absolutely adorable, & I just loved the way she questioned him & prodded into his life while also giving him the space to wrap himself around their new dynamic.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts. They have a cute push/pull thing going on, but when he lays claim to her . . I giggled & kicked my feet!!! I love a possessive grump!!

THE BROOD by Devney Perry gave me everything I was hoping for and more! After the last book in the series, I needed Wilder Abbott’s story—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Wilder is the ultimate broody hero—quiet, serious, and definitely not looking for love. But when his best friend asks him to let his younger sister, Iris, crash at his place for a few months… well, let’s just say things get very interesting.
Iris is all wanderlust and free spirit, the total opposite of Wilder’s gruff, small-town vibe. But opposites attract, and these two have serious sparks 🔥 Watching their slow burn romance unfold was sweet, steamy, and SO satisfying. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the emotional payoff? Chef’s kiss.
This one’s got:
🌲 Small town charm
💛 Grumpy + sunshine dynamic
🥰 Age gap romance
🔥 Slow burn with just the right amount of heat
📖 Can be read as a standalone!

Wilder and Iris stole my heart—and this might be my favorite in the series so far. If you love a heartfelt, steamy romance with all the cozy small-town vibes, definitely add this one to your TBR!

Overall Rating- 4/5⭐️
Spice-🌶️🌶️
Plot- medium paced but a feel good story
Trigger warnings- family’s disappointment, widowed husband
Tropes- small town, influencer FMC, misunderstood widowed MMC, grumpy/sunshine, best friends little sister, forced proximity
Wilder is a widowed high school teacher living a lonely life until his best friend cashes in a favor owed to him and asks Wilder if his little sister can stay with him for 2 months while she’s in Montana. Iris is a free spirit who travels and only stays in a place for 2 months tops, she’s an influencer and posts her life online. At first Wilder was grumpy and Iris wanted to open him up and get to know him and the town of Calamity but he wasn’t having it. The banter between these two keeps you hooked and I loved that they both didn’t care what people thought about them or their relationship. Iris helps Wilder let go of some guilt and Wilder shows Iris that she is able to put down roots and just stay.
