Quite the excellent read, and comfortably stressfully lighthearted.
REVIEWED with The Last Dragonslayer
These are two really good books-if you can suspend your disbelief and just go with it! Jennifer Strange is the acting head of KAZAM, an agency that employs sorcerers & wizards in the semi-magical world of the UNunited Kingdom. The last dragon will die on Sunday at the hands of the last dragonslayer, then the world will change and magic may either come back to the world or die forever. The Song of the Quarkbeast continues the tale of KAZAM as the King tries more underhandedness and some things may be resolved with the Great Zambini. Everything is wrapped up in the end with humor, magic, violence and fun all the way through. Fforde writes the quirkiest books and these are two of the best.

Anyone that knows me would be saying, "What! A kids book! Four Stars. What are you even doing reading a kids book?" Well I love Jasper Fforde and during the intermissions between Friday Next Novels I devour anything of his I can get my hands on. Even his children's books. Dulled down and slightly repetitive (which is expected for the age group) from his original spicy play on words his addictive writing style still holds a bite. Dual meanings, play on words and just an overall refreshing originality that borders on strangeness is sure to delight any reader of any age.
I liked this one better than the first in the series, as no quarkbeasts or dragons were harmed, and all the world-building was already done.
The small absurdities sprinkled throughout this book were prone to provoke outbursts of laughter even in the middle of otherwise ordinary paragraphs.
Favorite quote: "Since the Kingdom of Snodd granted licenses not by age but by who was mature enough to be put in charge of half a ton of speeding metal, no male under twenty-six or wizard ever possessed a driver’s license."
That became my favorite because I was suffering through five hours of interstate driving as I listened to this book. Evidently there were a lot of unlicensed wizards on the road that day.
Looking forward to book 3.

I love Jasper Fforde. His writing is clever, fun, and totally original. He continues to be one of my favorite authors.
What will Mr Fforde have in store for us next? Can't wait for next installment. Just a lot of fun...clever and zany. Novels I look forward to. They never disappoint. :)

Like the first book, this is such a light-hearted read and very British. I love the quirkiness and style. Filled with characters you care for, which is fantastic based on the size of the books.
Just a damn shame there is only one more book to read.
