There are many TW so be aware.
I loved so much about this book and found myself falling in love with the way it was written. Moon’s character development is refreshing and inspiring, however I did find some of her creative expressions to be a little bit cringe at times.
I definitely think that sometimes the emphasis put onto Santiago’s love of Moon’s body felt a little bit fetishized which rubbed me the wrong way, and I think that Star’s arc was too quick and not explored enough to feel whole.
Deposited these little critiques, I LOVED this book and it made me smile so much. I love the imagery, the integration of divination, flowers, and food. The research that the author put into this is evident and is woven into the story incredibly well.
I am seriously looking forward to reading this authors previous works and displaying this beautiful book and cover on my shelves. I imagine I will revisit this story again and again.

How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe features one of my favorite elements: complex sisters. And while this relationship, as well as toxic family members, are explored with thought and nuance, it's also a story firmly rooted in Moon and her journey. How the opinions and the things that the people we love say to us begins to change the ways we see ourselves in the mirror. All the moments she feels invisible, unwanted, and second.
Heart wrenching from start to finish, Moon feels neglected and alone. These moments had my heart breaking especially as it's contrasted with her own passion and her stifled dreams. How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe shifts from unraveling the secrets of the past, to exploring toxic relationships that whisper our worst thoughts back to us, and clashes of religion and love. While it unfolds slower than I was expecting, I never noticed it feeling slow, instead I greatly enjoyed watching the story unfurl.

This was just beautiful! It's funny, it's heartwarming, it's poignant, it's moving, it's simple.
What I thought was simply going to be a fun, enemies-to-lovers romance, turned out to be this beautiful, hilarious, profound, sex-positive, body-positive book about seeing yourself and loving yourself, dealing with the good and ugly sides of family, and falling in love. It challenged fatphobia and misogyny; it talked about mental illness, domestic violence, prejudice against sexually-active women, how religion can sometimes trigger worst in people; it also had a bit of disability rep and queer/sapphic rep.
Also, Moon Fuentez as a main character is already a compliment itself. I loved her! I loved her character, her personality, her character arc, everything. She made this book so lively and definitely relatable.
This book has it all. It's an instant favorite for me. 😭
CW: fatphobia, bigotry mostly influenced by religious views, misogyny, domestic violence/child abuse, unstable mental health, parental death, implied suicide, slut shaming, sexual harassment (minor/mild), sexual content (mild to graphic)
