I enjoyed this book! It’s sex positive and the characters grew. But it really needed a trigger warning.

I listened to the audiobook on a whim after the book won the Belpré Award, and I'm so glad I did! The narration is great, for starters. The story is mostly realistic with a teeny tiny hint of magic. There's a delightfully tropey romance that really earns the ending. There are a whole slew of problematic family dynamics (including references to ongoing physical and emotional abuse). There's a road trip, send-ups of popular social media, a deep-dive into modern art photography, body positivity, lots of good food, and a character that really comes into herself in a powerful way.
