a very useful and concise intro! i'm definitely underinformed about natives americans in the states so the politics and history sections were particularly useful to me. i appreciated how quick and readable it was too

Well written for the average white American who wants to learn more about indigenous people. Most of this information I already learned from several indigenous history classes I’d taken in college or previous books I’ve read so it felt repetitive.

While this book is not comprehensive, and no book this small on such a complicated topic that spans so much history and diversity could be, it has a solid basis for most people to have satisfactory answer to questions they have. It also provides plenty of questions you never thought to ask.

Definitely great perspectives and information; a lot of things they don't, but should teach you in history class. It gives me a lot for context for the Native experience of those in my community.
I do agree with some other reviewers that there was some repetition of stories and facts. If that had been cut down, definitely would have given 5 stars.

I have been actively trying to educate myself this year (as in most years) in order to best serve my students and their families and our community. This is a terrific resource for addressing misconceptions and ill-addressed history, and has provided much food for thought and (hopefully) action.
