The world mindset in a nutshell.
There was never any regard for the next generation.

Even though this is essentially a modern retelling of Hamlet, it felt truly original and McEwan's writing is inspired ... tempted on reflection to bump this up to a 5!
medium-paced

I've read better work by Ian McEwan... Was a bit disappointed by this book. The story was mediocre, the point of view experimental and remarkable but not convincing.

I haven't enjoyed a book as much as this for a long time. Startlingly original, left me wondering why someone hasn't attempted this before - a story written entirely from the point of view of the unborn child. A good plot, great wit and very moving at times too. After each chapter I felt I wanted to stop and think about what I had just read. Just wonderful.
