This book made me cry so many times I lost count. So dark and sad yet I couldn’t put it down.

before you start reading this book, i encourage you to make a list with all the bad things that could happen to someone. as some of those things happen, go back to your list and try to make it a bit more light-hearted because as the book goes on you will need it.
a very dark story, but with shines of light in between. i wouldn't say is an enjoyable experience but at least it wasn't as graphic as i thought it was going to be when i read some reviews from the book.
the next part might be consired a spoiler but it doesn't say anything really explicit, no names involved, but if you want everything to be a surprise...
one thing that i didn't like is how the author used romance to bring happiness, self assurance and healing to the characters, when i thought the book was going to be more about friendship. there is friendship in this couple, but i would've prefered if the same trust and reliability and inconditional acceptance had been shown through the light of friendship.
btw sorry if i made any mistakes grammatically or something, english isn't my first language

This book was so traumatizing and so horrific that I had to excuse myself on several occasions just to continue. IF YOU AREN'T EMOTIONALLY OR MENTALLY STABLE (or even if you are) DON'T READ THIS BOOK! I will never read this book again and I actively try to avoid it when I visit book stores. While I had originally rated this book 5 stars because of the emotional impact it had on me (dare I say, emotional trauma it evoked), I have come to my senses and instead rated this book 1 star. There was not a page in the book that was purely happy, or even neutral. From beginning to end and everything in between, this book was simply a trauma dump. Yanagihara really picked up Jude (mc) and was like "lets see how much utter depression, trauma, pain, suffering, and immense horror we can inflict on a single person and then, lets
kill all his best friends
Please, please, please read ALL of the trigger warnings before reading (and maybe the length of the list will deter you from this book all together). I would not wish this book upon my worst enemy and I will burn my copy as soon as I leave for uni.
