I waffled between 3 and 4 stars on this book, ultimately giving it 4 because I liked the characters. As for the plot itself, I found it somewhat predictable. I wasn't overly upset when the great tragedy happened because I had a very good hunch of how it was going to play out.

Oh my goodness, I am too emotional to write anything coherent. I love Susan Wiggs's "Willow Lake Series" and dare you to read it too if you are into romance book. Just find out for yourself what I mean...

I am not assigning a rating to this book because I did not finish. The characters were boring and the love triangle love plot, despite the ability to be interesting, was also boring.

I really struggled with how to rate this book. I waffled between and 3 and a 4. Ultimately though I rated it lower because I don't think this book works effectively as a romance novel. The hero and the romance get short shrift, imo. Don't get me wrong, the book is romantic because the H/h and stupid in love with each other and they struggle to get to one another. But the journey to their HEA is ultimately unsatisfying.

Otoh, if I were reading this book as Women's Fiction then I'd probably have given it the higher grade because really it reads more like WF than romance.

I am gratified that Daisy does really fall in love with and ends up with the guy I had been rooting for the whole series. But I disliked that they spent about 70% of the book apart from each other.

I have been waiting to get to this book since shortly after starting this series and then not that far into it I wasn't sure I was going to be able to even finish it. I powered on and did finish and am really happy I did, loved this book probably best of all in this series. Excited and sad to read the next one as it is the last one... at this moment.. hopefully there will be more!

I couldn't wait to read this book after getting a glimpse at the "proposal" scene in Lakeshore Christmas. I'm not disappointed. I think the way that the love triangle was written realistic, even as heartbreaking as it was. The scenes of Julian's captivity were heart-wrenching. I like that Logan was likable but that you were clearly given a glimpse that thy just weren't right for each other. I am a big fan that Julian coming home wasn't the reason for the end of Logan and Daisy's marriage. Overall good read that I'd recommend to my friends.

I love this series as a guilty pleasure but this was by far my least favorite! So terribly unrealistic in so many ways it was sad and disappointing

This was one of the hardest books I have ever read. By turns I wanted to hurry and see what would happen next, and slow down because I feared what would happen next. I am not and have never been that reader that peeks at the last few pages of a book to see how things work out. This story really tested me, though.

First, I have to say that if you haven’t read the rest of this series you really should. I think the chemistry and connection between Daisy and Julian will still comes through; there’s enough in flashback that you will still enjoy this story. But Daisy’s journey from a sad, lonely, rebellious teenager to a young adult doing the single parent thing with a good job and college degree is worth reading from the beginning. The way Susan Wiggs weaves Daisy’s story into the other books in this series is masterful. She always gave me just enough to keep me wanting more.

I wasn’t a fan of Logan, the father of Daisy’s son, when he was first introduced into this series. But if I’m honest with myself, Logan really did turn himself around. He’s not a bad guy at all. Yet I cannot abide Daisy ever choosing him over Julian. While I always understood Daisy’s confusion, she’s really a young lady that just wants to do what is right for her son, anyone could see Daisy would never be happy with anyone but Julian.

There’s not a lot that can be said about this story without giving spoilers, so I won’t go into too much detail. Some of the events that happen the reader can see coming a mile away. It’s all about how the characters are going to react to the events that had my stomach in knots. My emotions ran the gamut in this book. Joy, rage, contentment, and sorrow. Along with the knots in my stomach, there were butterflies in there too. I was 100% invested in Daisy’s life throughout this whole story and didn’t want to put it down. Yet I had to put it down because of the trepidation I was feeling in many parts.

I’m sure I’m not alone in having a very specific idea in mind for how I wanted the Daisy/Julian story to play out. This story just didn’t want to follow the path I wanted it to take. As much as the perfect fairy tale would have been amazing for this couple, it would have made for a very short story. This author took me on such an emotional journey with this one and I’ll never forget this book.
