There are times, when a murder is being set up (or discovered), that you hear the elastic band of coincidence being twanged hard. In this case it's being twanged to breaking point as Temperance Brennan helps with a body that died so weirdly that at autopsy, she is reminded of a body she worked on years ago, and thousands of miles away, in a different country.

So off she sets, trying to prove they're linked, and identify the four bodies involved.

It wasn't a bad book. I've complained in the past that Reichs has a tendency to stop midway through the story to over explain the story/science. There wasn't as much of that, which is a good thing. It also rattled along at a decent rate, making it a decent read!

My grumble is what are the odds of the 2 sets of murders being linked? I mean, I understand the idea of story, it's just you're going to have to swallow the set up, hard to get into the book.

The latest installment in the Temperance Brennan series, The Bone Code involves a blast from the past as a new case Tempe catches in North Carolina brings back memories of an unsolved murder she and Ryan worked in Montreal 15 years earlier. She ping pongs between the U.S. and Canada as she works to discover how (or if) the two cases are indeed connected.

I always enjoy a new Bones book (although I have to say, I hardly associate these books with the TV show because they are so different)! I thought the secondary mystery/investigation in this story was unnecessary and it somewhat distracted from the main plot, but overall it was a good read. There's not much character development, but perhaps that's not too surprising for the 20th book in a series. I'm still looking forward to more!

only thing going for it is an intriguing plot. every single chapter ends with a mic drop, which by the 5th one just sounds like an overexcited and uncreative high schooler. “put-of-my-stomach-type dread” “i knew what i had to do” “my breath caught in my throat” the following chapter would do little to address the “cliff hanger.” most of the writing was way too literal and basic, some random fatphobia in descriptions, and confusing explanations. overall poorly written, not worth it for a mildly satisfying ending

This is the first book I have read in the Temperance Brennan series. So perhaps, I would feel different if I loved the character, but for me this book was just OK. There are better detective stories, there are worse detective stories, it sat right tin the middle.

This specific one had a little bit of genetic & immunization lingo, which although a total novice on the topic, I know enough the plot seemed a bit far fetched.

But any book, I keep reading as I want to know ending gets a 3 stars from me.
