I have heard good things about this series and was told, if you're a SJM girly, you will love this.

I can kind of see it. The world building was massive in this book and consequently made the whole book feel slow and tough to get through.

BUT, the plot and the world building has been intrigued and I am seeing promising reviews for the second book so I will be diving right in.

I guess, if you love fantasy books and focusing on character set up and world building, then DO NOT give up on this book - the end was really good!

Physical -
she makes things gold idk if Midas can actually turn anything to gold but with his protection and love she serves him. Give a Tamlin feel when he tricks another King into a “golden saddle night” and really hurts their bond. Now she’s with Fourth’s army.
Great character development and writing that really makes you not only feel and root for the mfc but also some of the supporting characters too.

It could be worse.
It's definitely NOT as dramatic as some of these... what I'll assume are children or just very prudish girls that don't read these types of books, are. There's literally a total of TWO sex scenes. TWO. And they're pretty short-lived and not even in the most graphic detail I've read in other books.
There's a lot of repeated redundant filler, but once she finally leaves her cage, it starts to get more interesting and a little fun if not super predictable. It paves the way for future books to be more interesting, but overall, it was a very short read introduction to the series.
But what I'm confused about is her reference to "the flat Earth" lmao like I hope it's just a description as in, you can't see the curve, etc. Cause that's EMBARRASSING to actually believe the Earth is flat LOL I'm dying over here

I don’t usually write reviews on here and just keep to the stars. But I feel like after reading the negativity on here for this book, I felt like I had to write this.

I read this book in a day. Which is a record for me. Some parts were a bit slow, but overall I enjoyed it.

There are trigger warnings which are clear to see on one of the first pages. Some of these reviews baffle me. Complaining about particular topics covered , when the author has already told you the themes of what you might come across. This is a DARK book. If you don’t like reading about dark topics, then don’t review this book badly because you can’t handle it?

Years ago the nature of this book was probably accurate. Sad but true. Men did get the upper hand and were seen as superior. But I’m excited to read the rest of this series to see Auren grow as a character.

Be warned , women are used and abused in this book. But the story itself is worth reading, and I hope by the end of the series Auren makes a change to the way men operate.
